July 5, 2018CASPAR VERTEBRAL BODY DISTRACTOR
NGS® Caspar Vertebral Body Distractor is used in anterior cervical discectomy to move the vertebral body and enhance surgical exposure for subsequent decompression and proper graft insertion. The featured distractor is for the right approach from the level of the C5 spine to the T1/2 level, and from the left approach for the upper cervical spine. The tool consists of a rack-and-pinion which converts rotational motion to linear motion, a horizontal rod and two arms that are perpendicular to the rod. One arm is fixed and the other is moveable. Caspar pins are placed in the center of the upper and lower vertebral bodies, and the Caspar retractor is attached to the pins. The disc space is then distracted by turning the lever on the movable arm using a torque meter. The distance between the arms can be adjusted according to surgical requirements and the system is locked at the desired position.
